Alejandro Mayorkas, Biden’s handpicked Homeland Security Secretary, said the supposed immigration “crisis” at America’s southern border is simply not true. But at least one lawmaker who serves in a border community that has firsthand knowledge of the problem does not agree. And this lawmaker is a Democrat.
Texas representative Vincente Gonzalez said the onslaught of Central Americans who just keep coming and coming, is going to have a catastrophic effect. Gonzalez is not only concerned for his community, but for the Democratic party as a whole.
“For thousands of people to be reaching our border in the middle of a pandemic, in a disorderly fashion, could be catastrophic to my district,” Gonzalez said.
His watchful eye has noticed illegal immigrants over the past few weeks being processed and released almost immediately upon their arrival in the U.S. He fears this action is sending the wrong message.
“If that is the message that we send to Central America and around the world, I can assure you it won’t be long before we have tens of thousands of people showing up to our border, and it’ll be catastrophic for our party, for our country, for my region, for my district, in the middle of a pandemic, in an area where we’ve lost over 3,000 people in my small congressional district.”
Gonzales went on to say, “So I think we need to have a better plan in place. I think we — asylum-seekers should be able to ask for asylum and be processed in their home country or a neighboring country. And we shouldn’t have a policy in place that impulses people to make this 2,000-mile trek, where cartels and human traffickers are enriching themselves.”
Gonzales made a good point when he stating how over 80 percent of arriving immigrants claim to be seeking asylum when in actuality, their claims are bogus. His idea is for people to seek asylum while still in their native countries. Once approved via a new and improved expeditious immigration program they could hop the next flight out. Welcome to America.
Just last month Gonzales said, “Our party should be concerned. If we go off the rails, it’s going to be bad for us. Biden is going to be dealing with a minority in Congress if he continues down some of these paths.”
But Mayorkas who does not bear witness to the everyday happenings at the border thinks he knows better than Gonzales. “I think that the–the answer is no. I think there is a challenge at the border that we are managing, and we have our resources dedicated to–to managing it,” he blindly said.
“The men and women of the Department of Homeland Security are working around the clock, seven days a week, to ensure that we do not have a crisis at the border, that we manage the challenge as acute as the challenge is. And they are not doing it alone. This is a challenge that the border communities, those non-governmental organizations, that people who care for individuals seeking humanitarian relief all understand are imperative.”
Well. That’s pretty easy to say when you’re sitting in an ivory tower calling the shots. Gonzales has street knowledge. He lives with the immigration problem daily. He has witnessed the crimes of immigrants who arrive in the U.S. with only the shirts on their backs. They are all but forced to survive by hook or by crook.
The Biden administration is in their own way sending written invitations to anyone and everyone in Central America to come on up. Before going to war, Generals and other military personnel are consulted due to their expertise from having been there and done that.
So who is the Biden administration consulting with? Certainly not the lawmaker in Texas, or those on other border towns, who could tell them everything they want and need to know. Pretty dumb move, guys.
