Elon Musk has turned his fire on President Trump over his administration’s sweeping new tax and spending package, calling the much-hyped “One Big, Beautiful Bill” a “disgusting abomination.” In a blunt rebuke on X (formerly Twitter), the Tesla and SpaceX CEO accused lawmakers of pushing through a pork-laden monstrosity under the guise of patriotism and fiscal reform.
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” Musk wrote in a viral post. “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”
Musk’s outburst comes just days after the House narrowly passed the legislation in a 215-214-1 vote. The bill, championed by Trump as a centerpiece of his renewed economic agenda, bundles a wide array of tax cuts and government reforms. Trump has celebrated it as a transformational plan to slash taxes, cut red tape, and restore fiscal discipline after what he has called “four disastrous years” under Joe Biden.
The bill includes popular proposals like eliminating taxes on tips and overtime, extending the 2017 Trump tax cuts, increasing defense and border funding, and tightening oversight of government-run healthcare programs. In a recent Truth Social post, Trump declared the bill a “historic opportunity” and insisted it would help “balance the budget” while letting “Americans keep more of their money.”
“Passing THE ONE, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL is a Historic Opportunity to turn our Country around,” Trump said. “We will take a massive step to balancing our Budget by enacting the largest mandatory Spending Cut EVER… Something 80 Million Voters supported in November.”
But Musk isn’t buying it.
His post reflects growing frustration among fiscal conservatives, libertarians, and even some Trump-aligned voters who worry the bill has become a Trojan horse for runaway spending. Critics argue that, while the package offers meaningful tax relief, it’s also bloated with earmarks, special interest giveaways, and new spending that undermines the bill’s stated goals.
Behind the scenes, some Republicans who voted for the bill privately acknowledge the pressure they faced from Trump’s team to “deliver a win” before July 4th. The legislation was fast-tracked through Congress in an all-night session—something Musk and others see as a red flag for transparency.
Musk has previously supported aspects of Trump’s policies, especially on deregulation, American industry, and space exploration. But his post this week signals a clear break from blind allegiance. He’s been increasingly vocal in recent months about what he sees as bipartisan failure to rein in Washington’s addiction to spending.
“This is what happens when Congress stops fearing the people and starts worshiping power,” one Musk ally posted in response to his criticism. “Trump may mean well—but this bill reeks of the same DC rot he once promised to drain.”
For now, Trump appears unfazed by the blowback. He remains adamant about getting the bill on his desk before Independence Day, believing it will galvanize his base ahead of the 2026 midterms. But Musk’s high-profile rejection could ripple across the political landscape, especially with independent voters and younger conservatives who see him as a rare truth-teller.
Whether this rift deepens or gets patched over may depend on what, if anything, Trump’s team does to address concerns about transparency, spending caps, or trimming fat from the final version. But as of now, Elon Musk is sounding the alarm—and Washington is paying attention.
