A once-loyal Democrat is calling out his own party for going off the rails.
Dan Turrentine, a former Democratic strategist, is torching the left over their response to the violent anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles. Appearing on “The Morning Meeting,” Turrentine didn’t mince words: “The Democratic Party has kind of lost its mind.”
Riots erupted Friday night in L.A. after ICE agents carried out arrests of criminal illegal aliens. What followed was a wave of chaos—rioters torching cars, launching fireworks at police, smashing windows, and assaulting officers. But instead of condemning the violence, many on the left tried to excuse or even justify it.
Turrentine wasn’t having it.
“You cannot tolerate that people are harming government property and harming federal officials executing the job,” he said. “You just simply cannot do this.”
Turrentine went further, accusing Gov. Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass of dragging their feet because they sympathized with the cause of the rioters. He said they didn’t act quickly because “they didn’t really see a problem with it.”
That kind of thinking, Turrentine warned, is leading the country into disaster. “It looks like a third-world country,” he added, referencing footage of mobs throwing rocks and attacking ICE vehicles.
While Democrats like Rep. Maxine Waters continue to claim there was “no violence” in L.A.—despite viral footage showing the exact opposite—Turrentine says enough is enough.
Meanwhile, ICE and DHS officials have confirmed that their agents were attacked with fireworks and bricks, and one protester was seen smashing ICE vehicles while wearing a motorcycle helmet. In response, President Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard troops to secure the area.
Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin slammed Democrats like Hakeem Jeffries and Mayor Bass, accusing them of encouraging violence through “repeated vilification and demonization of ICE.”
“The violent rhetoric of these sanctuary politicians is beyond the pale,” she said. “This violence against ICE must end.”
Trump’s bold move to restore law and order was instantly criticized by Newsom, who called the National Guard deployment “a dangerous escalation.” But Turrentine’s comments show that even former party insiders are questioning whether Democrats understand the moment—or have simply lost control of it.
At a time when Americans want safety and sanity, Democrats are defending riots. And that, according to Turrentine, is why voters are abandoning them in droves.
