In a move that’s sure to ignite the outrage machine, six active-duty transgender service members have filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump’s recent executive order prohibiting transgender individuals from serving in the military.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Washington, D.C., argues that the order is unconstitutional and seeks an emergency ruling to block its implementation. The plaintiffs, who have collectively received numerous medals and commendations for their service, claim that the order reflects animosity toward transgender people and lacks any legitimate governmental purpose.
The National Center for Lesbian Rights and GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders are representing the plaintiffs, challenging the legality of Trump’s ban. The Pentagon has stated that it will implement all directives from the President with professionalism and efficiency, while the White House has not yet responded to requests for comment.
This legal battle underscores the ongoing tension between the administration’s policies and the rights of transgender individuals serving in the military.
