A Canadian judge has waived the victim fine surcharge for Fitsum Wode Zewdu, a 33-year-old Ethiopian immigrant who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl by smearing and jamming feces into her face and mouth near a Vancouver SkyTrain station. The reason the fines were waived? He's unemployed, and paying would cause him "undue hardship." You know what else causes undue hardship? Having a stranger shove human waste into your mouth.
Let me get this straight. A grown man attacks a teenage girl in one of the most degrading ways imaginable, and the court's concern is that the fine might be too rough on him? Canada, you've outdone yourselves.
B.C. Provincial Court Judge Reginald Harris handed Zewdu a total sentence of 695 days. Sounds almost serious until you learn he already served 311 days in pre-trial custody, which — thanks to Canada's 1.5-to-1 credit ratio — counted as 467 days. So the man who sexually assaulted a child with feces has just 227 days left behind bars. That's about seven and a half months. For jamming human waste into a teenager's mouth.
The fine surcharge Judge Harris waived typically ranges from $100 to $200 per offense, or 15 percent where a fine has been levied. We're not talking about millions here. We're talking about a couple hundred bucks that this monster apparently can't afford because he's been unemployed for years. I'm sure that fact brings tremendous comfort to the 17-year-old victim.

And this wasn't even Zewdu's first rodeo. Not by a long shot. His criminal history stretches back to 2019 and reads like a horror show. In 2024, he slapped a woman on the buttocks after getting off the SkyTrain — 60 days for that one. In July 2025, he exposed himself outside a strip club and threatened to kill and beat a woman — 180 days. He's been convicted of masturbating naked at a library computer. He spat in a woman's face. He dropped a cigarette down a woman's top while whispering creepy comments. He racked up two convictions for failing to comply with court orders, one sexual assault, two indecent acts, and two mischief charges.
Every single one of those should have been a flashing red neon sign that this man was escalating. Every single one was apparently treated as a minor inconvenience by the Canadian justice system.
The feces assault itself happened in June 2025. Zewdu approached the 17-year-old girl from behind near a SkyTrain station, grabbed her, and smeared fecal matter over her face and mouth. He even held out his phone as if he was recording the attack, though police found no recording on his device. He pleaded guilty to sexual assault, assault, and committing an indecent act.
Judge Harris at least acknowledged the severity, stating, "The vile nature of the unprovoked assault committed against a young woman who was a stranger to Mr. Zewdu warrants a sentence that strongly denounces and deters." Strongly denounces and deters? You waived the fines, Your Honor. What exactly is being deterred here?
Zewdu gets a three-year probation order after his release, as reported by The Post Millennial and Louder With Crowder. Three years of someone theoretically checking in on a serial predator who has already violated two court orders. Color me reassured.
This is what a justice system looks like when it cares more about the criminal's comfort than the victim's dignity. A teenage girl had human feces jammed into her mouth by a repeat offender, and he walks out in seven months with his fines waived. Canada's message to predators couldn't be louder: we'll go easy on you, especially if you're broke.
