Democrat commentator Bakari Sellers went on CNN's NewsNight and called Elon Musk — the South African-born immigrant who runs multiple companies employing tens of thousands of people from every conceivable background — a "white supremacist." And host Abby Phillip didn't just let it slide. She defended it.

This is CNN in 2026, ladies and gentlemen. Where you can accuse a successful immigrant of being a white supremacist with zero evidence and the anchor nods along like you just said something profound.

Attorney Arthur Aidala, who was also on the panel, summed up the moment perfectly with two words: "Oh boy." That's about all any reasonable person could muster watching that exchange.

But here's where it gets really good. When the accusation was challenged, Abby Phillip didn't push back on Sellers. Instead, she pivoted to defending him by comparing it to previous on-air statements about Democrat Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner. "There are people who come on this show and called him a straight up Nazi," Phillip said. "I don't want to litigate that."

Small problem with that comparison, Abby. Platner actually has a genuine Nazi tattoo. There's, you know, evidence. Photographic evidence. The kind you can see with your eyes.

What evidence did Bakari Sellers present that Elon Musk is a white supremacist? Absolutely nothing. Not a document. Not a quote. Not a single piece of substantiation. He just said it, and CNN aired it as though it were a legitimate contribution to public discourse.

Social media users immediately pointed out the glaring problem. "But there's evidence of that!" one user wrote, referring to the Platner comparison. Multiple users called for Musk to pursue a defamation lawsuit against Sellers.

And honestly, can you blame them? We've reached the point where "white supremacist" means nothing more than "person the left doesn't like." Musk is from South Africa. He immigrated to this country. He built companies that employ people of every race and nationality on the planet. But because he bought Twitter and stopped censoring conservatives, he's suddenly a white supremacist.

This is exactly why CNN's ratings are in the basement. When you let guests throw around the most incendiary accusations in American public life without a single shred of evidence — and then your host actively defends it — you're not a news network anymore. You're a propaganda outfit.

Abby Phillip had one job: push back. Ask for evidence. That's what journalists are supposed to do. Instead, she chose to be Bakari Sellers' defense attorney.
