The Trump administration is once again proving that government waste isn’t just real — it’s staggering. On Sunday, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) revealed it had identified nearly $2 billion in wasteful spending that is now being cut, marking another victory in President Trump’s promise to rein in Washington’s reckless habits.

According to the agency, 163 contracts across multiple departments were terminated in just five days, with a combined ceiling value of $1.9 billion. The actual taxpayer savings from those cancellations amount to $647 million — and the examples of waste tell their own story.

One of the most egregious projects eliminated was a $35 million USAID contract designed to “support democracy and stability in El Salvador.” Instead of producing tangible benefits for Americans, the contract was essentially set up to funnel money to contractors with little oversight or accountability.

Another eyebrow-raising item was a $280,000 Department of the Interior contract for “horse-mounted patrol grooming services.” Though smaller than the multimillion-dollar USAID program, this kind of wasteful spending adds up quickly and epitomizes the careless budgeting that DOGE was created to eliminate.

The State Department was also caught spending nearly $200,000 for “customized English language training” for staff at the U.S. embassy in Armenia. While framed as an educational effort, critics argue that such programs are hardly a priority when Americans are struggling under rising costs at home.

Other canceled contracts included obscure academic “assessment specialist” positions and taxpayer-funded “facilitation services” with little to no oversight or measurable outcomes.

This is just the latest round of savings announced by DOGE, an initiative created to cut bureaucracy and return accountability to Washington. The department has already notched several high-profile victories, including the defunding of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which previously funneled taxpayer money into NPR and PBS. That decision alone redirected more than $9 billion away from left-leaning media institutions and back toward taxpayers.

The New York Post summarized that historic move earlier this year: “The Corporation for Public Broadcasting – which funds NPR and PBS — will shut down after the loss of federal funding.” That cut had been on conservative wish lists for decades, and under Trump, it finally became reality.

For President Trump, the fight against government waste is central to his vision of restoring fiscal sanity and rebuilding public trust. “The American people must be able to have full confidence that their money is not being squandered,” he said in a recent post, pointing to DOGE’s work as evidence that accountability is returning to Washington.

Even with billions already slashed, officials insist they are just getting started. DOGE has promised more revelations in the weeks ahead as it continues combing through contracts across agencies. The cuts also come as Trump has clashed with Federal Reserve officials over spending priorities, signaling his determination to keep challenging the entrenched systems that fuel government excess.

The message from the White House is simple: taxpayers will no longer be forced to foot the bill for frivolous projects, overseas boondoggles, or politically motivated programs. Every dollar matters — and under Trump’s leadership, wasteful spending is finally being brought to light and eliminated.

With DOGE pushing forward and more audits underway, billions more in savings could soon be uncovered, proving once again that the swamp has plenty left to drain.
