ICE Arrests 'Minnesota Man' Mukeshkumar Somabhai Chaudhari for Illegally Voting in 2024 Election

On November 5, 2024, a man walked into a polling place in Minnesota, signed the voter signature certificate affirming he was a United States citizen, and cast a ballot in the presidential election. His name is Mukeshkumar Somabhai Chaudhari.

He is not a United States citizen.

ICE Homeland Security Investigations arrested Chaudhari on a two-count federal indictment returned by a grand jury in the District of Minnesota on September 10. The charges: "knowingly making a false claim of United States citizenship to vote" in the 2024 election. According to the Department of Homeland Security, Chaudhari signed the voter signature certificate stating "he was a citizen of the United States" when he was not, and he knew he was not when he signed it.

The way Democrat-friendly summaries would describe the defendant as a "Minnesota man." Not an Indian national living in Minnesota. Not a non-citizen who committed federal election fraud. A "Minnesota man" — the phrase newsrooms deploy when the name and origin of the accused might complicate the narrative they've been selling.

The narrative in question is that non-citizen voting doesn't happen. We've heard it for years. It's a "myth." It's a "conspiracy theory." It's "vanishingly rare" and "not a real problem." Every time a state tries to verify citizenship on voter rolls, the same chorus lines up to call it voter suppression.

Then a federal grand jury hands down an indictment with a specific name, a specific date, a specific fraudulent signature, and suddenly the conversation shifts to how one case doesn't prove a pattern.

The timing couldn't be worse for that argument. This arrest lands in the same week as ongoing legal battles over non-citizen names appearing on voter rolls in multiple states. Each individual case is dismissed as an outlier. The outliers are starting to need their own spreadsheet.

Chaudhari's case is useful precisely because it's so clean. There's no ambiguity about intent. He didn't accidentally register. He didn't misunderstand a form. He walked into a polling location on Election Day, swore under penalty of law that he was a citizen, and voted. The grand jury found enough evidence to indict on two federal counts. ICE found him and arrested him.

The people who insist non-citizen voting is a fantasy have a specific request: stop looking for it. Don't audit the rolls. Don't require proof of citizenship to register. Don't let ICE cooperate with election officials. Every proposed safeguard is characterized as an attack on legitimate voters. The assumption baked into every objection is that if you actually check, you won't find anything.

A federal grand jury in Minnesota checked.

They found Mukeshkumar Somabhai Chaudhari. Two counts. Signed the certificate himself. November 5, 2024.

The question was never whether it happens. The question is how many more are on the rolls in states that refuse to look.
