Jim Acosta, formerly of CNN and now an activist podcaster on Substack, livestreamed the removal of President Trump's name from the Kennedy Center on Saturday and compared it to one of the most consequential moments in modern history. Because of course he did.

"This is very much like watching the Berlin Wall coming down," Acosta said, presumably without a shred of irony. He followed it up with: "It is a sign that humankind can stand up against tyranny." Humankind standing up against tyranny. Over a name on a building. Got it.

Let's just take a moment to appreciate the sheer scale of delusion here. The Berlin Wall separated families, imprisoned an entire nation, and stood as the physical symbol of Soviet communist oppression for nearly three decades. More than 100 people died trying to cross it. Approximately 2 million people gathered to tear it down in one of the most powerful moments of liberation the world has ever seen.

And Jim Acosta thinks some letters coming off the side of a performing arts center in Washington, D.C., is "very much like" that.

This is your brain on Trump Derangement Syndrome, folks. There is no cure.

For context, President Trump added his name to the Kennedy Center exterior back in December. A federal court subsequently ruled that only Congress has the authority to alter the building's name. So the name came down — following a court order, through a legal process. Not exactly a revolution against totalitarianism.

But Acosta doesn't care about context. He never has. This is the same guy who turned CNN press briefings into his personal audition reel for years. Now that he's been booted to Substack, he's apparently decided that livestreaming building maintenance is his path back to relevance.

The internet was not kind to Acosta's comparison. One commenter nailed it: "What an absolute disgrace to all those who suffered behind the Berlin Wall." Another put it more simply: "Such a dufus. Trump has broken him."

Hard to argue with either take.

Here's what makes this even more absurd — Saturday was June 14th. Trump's birthday. The man turned 80 years old, and Jim Acosta spent the day standing outside the Kennedy Center acting like he was witnessing the liberation of Eastern Europe.

We've seen a lot of unhinged takes from the media over the past decade. We've watched them compare everything Trump does to fascism, authoritarianism, and the end of democracy. But comparing the removal of a name from a building to the fall of a wall that kept millions of people in a communist prison? That might be the single most delusional thing any of them have ever said.

And that's a high bar.
