The UN Just Admitted Its Climate Doomsday Model Was Junk Science — And We're Supposed to Forget the Trillions They Wasted

The United Nations' top climate committee has officially walked back its worst-case emissions scenario — the infamous RCP 8.5 model — after roughly 15 years of using it to terrorize the planet into submission. The projections, they now admit, "have become implausible." That's UN-speak for "we made it all up and you fell for it."

Every gas stove ban. Every electric vehicle mandate. Every green energy boondoggle. All built on a model its own creators just declared fiction. Somebody owes us an apology. And a refund.

President Trump, never one to let a victory lap go untaken, torched the climate establishment on Truth Social. "After 15 years of Dumocrats promising that 'Climate Change' is going to destroy the Planet, the United Nations TOP Climate Committee just admitted that its own projections (RCP8.5) were WRONG!" he wrote on May 16. And honestly, what else is there to say? The man was right. Again.

As reported by Townhall, this wasn't some minor footnote buried in a report nobody reads. RCP 8.5 was THE model — the one that predicted catastrophic warming by 2100, the one that launched a thousand regulations, the one that politicians from Washington to Brussels used to justify reshaping entire economies around "clean energy" mandates that made everything more expensive.

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld summed it up perfectly on Twitter: "After decades of screaming the planet is six minutes from extinction, the UN just walked back their doomsday models." That's the whole story in one sentence.

Remember what happened to anyone who questioned the science? You were a "denier." You were "anti-science." You were a danger to humanity. Meanwhile, the actual scientists were running projections they now admit were implausible. We weren't the deniers — they were the fantasists.

The Manhattan Institute's Lauren Cass has been among those pointing out for years that economic models built on RCP 8.5 were fundamentally flawed. And look at the real-world policy damage: New York City's Local Law 97, for example, mandated building owners rip out their boilers and replace them with electric heat pumps — all based on climate projections that just got memory-holed.

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro called this years ago. Back in a 2021 speech, he argued: "One of the great ways that you adapt is through capitalism, because... the economy is going to continue to grow by virtually every estimate." The answer was never centralized government control. It was never banning your appliances. It was letting free markets innovate and adapt.

But the climate industrial complex didn't want adaptation. They wanted control. And RCP 8.5 gave them the scary numbers to justify it.

The Copernicus report that accompanied this walkback tried to soften the blow, but there's no softening this. For 15 years, governments spent trillions of dollars, destroyed energy independence, drove up electricity prices, and kneecapped industries — all on a model that was, in their own words, implausible.

No one's getting fired. No one's getting investigated. No one's paying back the money. The same people who screamed "follow the science" just got caught following science fiction, and they'll pivot to the next scare without blinking.

But we'll remember. And so will the voters.
