It sent shockwaves through the world when Donald Trump won the 2024 election in the biggest landslide of the past 40 years. Liberal late-night talk show hosts broke down in tears. The women on ‘The View’ called Trump voters every name in the book. The media announced a period of mourning for the country and America’s foreign policy establishment went oddly quiet. No one was harder hit by the reelection of Donald Trump than the runty little dictator in charge of Ukraine—Vladimir Zelensky.
That makes sense when you think about it. Zelensky has been enriching himself hand-over-fist ever since Joe Biden and Kamala Harris started the Ukraine war. He’s bought foreign real estate, luxury homes, at least one luxury resort casino that we know of, and multiple sports cars. That’s not bad for a guy whose head-of-state salary was only $88,000 a year back before the war started.
The US has also sent hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars to Ukraine to prosecute the war, without ever bothering to ask the American people if they supported the idea. Zelensky has a lot to lose when Donald Trump becomes president again.
Zelensky sent out a lengthy message to President-Elect Trump on X.com to congratulate him on his victory. It sounded a bit like a broke college kid writing home to Dad for more money. Zelensky notes that he hopes he and Trump will be able to put an end to Russian aggression against Ukraine.
So, Zelensky is still in the land of make-believe, thinking that Russia had started the war. That’s not the case at all, though you’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone in the American media who will admit that.
Joe Biden originally told President Vladimir Putin that the United States was not going to intervene when Russia started parking troops on the border with Ukraine. That was a lie. A few days later, Biden sent the unwitting Kamala Harris to Europe where she announced that Ukraine would be joining NATO.
That was a red line for Putin. He’s been trying to make peace with NATO for more than 25 years and keeps getting stabbed in the back by the American foreign policy establishment. Putin knows that if Ukraine joins NATO, it will mean having nuclear weapons parked right on his border. Kamala Harris’s foolish announcement was the catalyzing event that started the war.
President-Elect Trump has been saying for years that he could end the Ukraine-Russia war in 24 hours if he was re-elected. Now that he’s won, it looks like he’ll be putting that foreign policy expertise to the test once again. Zelensky knows that Trump is a strong, anti-war president who won’t keep the Ukraine gravy train running much longer. That’s why he’s suddenly willing to start asking for peace.
As for President Putin, he says he’s open to having Trump negotiate the peace terms between the two nations. Putin is in a very strong bargaining position now that his troops have captured almost half of Ukraine. The morale of the Ukrainian military is near rock bottom and the troops were never supportive of the war to begin with. Most of them who are still alive probably wish that Kamala Harris had kept her mouth shut.
Zelensky has been saying all along that victory is the only option for his country and that he won’t cede any territory to Russia during the peace talks. That tough-guy talk ended immediately when he realized that the money spigot was about to be shut off by President Trump.
