Soros Gave Democrats $64 Million for Congressional Power Grab — And Called It ‘Democracy’

Virginia just held a redistricting referendum, and — shock of all shocks — the side that spent $64 million won. The group pushing to let Democrats redraw Virginia’s congressional maps, Virginians for Fair Elections (adorable name, by the way), hauled in sixty-four million dollars. Their opposition raised about $20 million. Democrats outspent them more than three to one.

And where did all that cash come from? George Soros. Obviously. Who else writes checks that big to rig elections they pretend to be “protecting”?

Here’s how this scam works. Virginia currently has 11 congressional seats — 6 Democrats, 5 Republicans. Not exactly a lopsided map. But “fair” isn’t what Democrats are after. The New York Times ran an analysis showing that the new maps could hand Democrats 10 out of 11 seats. Ten out of eleven. In a state that isn’t even deep blue.

That’s not redistricting. That’s a heist.

The money trail is beautiful in its brazenness. Fox News reported that Virginians for Fair Elections was “pumped with millions in cash from a web of George Soros-backed dark money groups.” The biggest single donor? House Majority Forward — which is the dark money arm of the House Majority PAC, the Democrats’ main super PAC. They dumped nearly $40 million into Virginia in just a few months.

Forty. Million. Dollars. To win a state referendum.

(But remember, kids — when Republicans spend money on elections, it’s “dark money corrupting democracy.” When Democrats do it, it’s “civic engagement.” Totally different.)

The whole operation was backed by the usual Soros network. The Fund for Policy Reform Inc. — directly founded by George Soros himself. The Fairness Project — funded by the Sixteen Thirty Fund, the Hopewell Fund, and the Tides Foundation. If you’ve ever wondered what a money laundering operation for political power looks like, this is it. Except it’s legal, because Democrats wrote the rules.

They spent $16 million just on television ads. The Washington Post reported they outspent anti-redistricting groups 10 to 1 on the airwaves. Ten to one! The opposition never had a chance. That’s like bringing a water pistol to a naval bombardment.

Former Rep. Abigail Spanberger — the Democrat who pushed this whole thing — sold it as “fair redistricting.” Fair! With $64 million in dark money behind it. With Soros cash flowing through the state like — well, like poison, which is exactly how American Wire News described it.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries had the audacity to claim that the opposition “spent tens of millions of dollars to lie.” Hakeem, buddy, your side spent $64 million. The other side spent $20 million. Your side outspent them by $44 million. And YOU’RE complaining about money in politics? That takes a level of shamelessness that would make a used car salesman blush.

Here’s what this actually means for the country. The New York Times analysis said that Virginia’s new maps, combined with the California maps voters approved in November, would “cancel out most, if not all, of the Republican redistricting gains made last year” in North Carolina, Ohio, Missouri, and Texas.

Read that again. Republicans won redistricting battles in four states through their state legislatures — the normal, legal way. Democrats responded by dumping Soros money into two states to erase all of those gains through ballot referendums. They couldn’t win at the statehouse level, so they bought their way around it.

And they have the nerve to lecture us about “threats to democracy.”

This is the Democratic playbook in 2026. They don’t win arguments. They don’t win on policy. They win by flooding the zone with so much cash that the other side can’t compete. They call it “grassroots organizing” while cashing $40 million checks from a Hungarian billionaire’s dark money network.

Every single Democrat who has ever complained about Citizens United, dark money, or corporate influence in politics should be forced to explain why $64 million in Soros-affiliated cash buying a redistricting referendum is somehow different. We’ll wait.

They won’t explain it, of course. Because they can’t. The hypocrisy isn’t a bug — it’s the whole program. “Dark money” is only dark when Republicans spend it. When it’s Soros money flowing through three layers of nonprofit cutouts to buy Virginia’s congressional map for the next decade? That’s just democracy in action, baby.

Virginia voters got played. Sixty-four million dollars of out-of-state dark money just bought the right to draw congressional districts that will keep Democrats in power for a decade. And tomorrow, those same Democrats will go on MSNBC and talk about how much they care about “getting money out of politics.”

Classic.
